To ensure that all lettuce and leafy greens are safe to eat by developing, implementing and continuously enhancing a science-based leafy greens food safety program that can serve as a model for the agriculture industry.
Arizona Leafy Green Products Shipper Marketing Agreement (AZ LGMA or Arizona Leafy Greens Food Safety Committee) began in September 2007. Members of Arizona Leafy Greens work collaboratively to protect public health by reducing potential sources of contamination in Arizona grown leafy greens.
Arizona's lettuce industry has quietly grown into one of Arizona’s most vital agricultural sectors, bringing an estimated $1 billion to the state in the way of jobs and revenues.
In an effort to better organize and protect the integrity of leafy green vegetables grown and shipped from the state, those who are directly involved in Arizona’s leafy greens industry established the Arizona Leafy Greens Food Safety Committee (Arizona Leafy Greens) in 2007. The members of this group ensure that Arizona’s leafy greens meet mandatory food safety standards upheld with audits conducted by government-certified inspectors.
Current Science Based Standards
The leafy greens industry is responsible for supplying a safe food supply to the world’s consumers. The goal is always to produce results – at the speed of industry – that respond to timely issues that can affect food safety. These results help to maintain the most current science based standards.
