WANT TO JOIN ARIZONA LEAFY GREENS?

Membership is open to shippers. A shipper is a person who engages in shipping, transporting, selling or marketing leafy green products (iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, baby leaf lettuce (i.e., immature lettuce or leafy greens), escarole, endive, spring mix, spinach, cabbage, kale, arugula, chard or radicchio) under his or her own registered trademark or label or a person who first markets the leafy green products for the producer.

Membership is NOT open to retailers. However, anyone is welcome to order our Food Safety Training Kit and adopt the same uniform practices that are employed by our members. The program can be used to comply with  guidelines established by the United States Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Not sure where you fit, or want to clarify? Call us at 602.542.0945.

WHY JOIN?

By joining the Arizona Leafy Greens Food Safety Committee, you commit to adhering to a universal protocol that establishes baseline food safety standards for our industry. This process enables us to protect the integrity of our product, and ensure a quality process from farm to fork. The process entails:

  • Sign up, get standards and create a Food Safety Plan

  • Have your Food Safety Plan audited and receive findings with requests for corrective action

  • Submit your corrective action plan

  • Get certification

  • Pay assessment, attend train-the-trainer workshops and train your staff!

WHY DO I NEED AN AUDIT?

Protecting our process is the best way we can work collaboratively to ensure the integrity of our entire industry. As we have seen with other commodities, just one outbreak can lead to a nationwide, self-afflicted ban on a product. By going through audits of our Food Safety processes, both scheduled and unannounced, we can assure the public that we, as an industry, stand behind the food handling protocols that we have established. These good industry practices are safeguards to protect all of us, collectively and individually.

If you are unsure about whether you should join, please contact us to talk with one of our members and understand firsthand how our groundbreaking Food Safety Training Program has become a standard in the industry, and is now considered a model for other commodities.
