Why does food safety certification matter for leafy greens? By showing the service mark of the Arizona Leafy Greens Food Safety Committee (AZ LGMA) you adhere to our vision and mission: To ensure that all Arizona lettuce and leafy greens are safe to eat by developing, implementing and continuously enhancing a science-based leafy greens food safety program that can serve as a model for the agriculture industry.
LOOK FOR THE MARK
The certified members (shippers) of Arizona Leafy Greens are audited by government auditors, and if they are found to be out of compliance with the Metrics, the company will face a range of penalties, the most severe of which is decertification, which bans them from using the service mark.
The Arizona LGMA Service Mark is visible to retail and institutional buyers that purchase crates of produce that are procured from our members. The mark signifies that shippers and growers are maintaining the safe food handling practices and requirements stipulated by their participation in the Arizona LGMA.
MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES
Membership in Arizona Leafy Greens is completely voluntary and has 96 percent industry participation, which speaks volumes to its commitment to safe leafy greens production.
Members may be shippers or their representative designee. A shipper is defined as a person that engages in shipping, transporting, selling or marketing leafy green products (iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, baby leaf lettuce (i.e., immature lettuce or leafy greens), escarole, endive, spring mix, spinach, cabbage, kale, arugula, chard or radicchio under his or her own registered trademark or label or a person who first markets the leafy green products for the producer. It does not mean a retailer.
